Publishing Procedure

South-east European forestry (SEEFOR) is an open-access, peer-reviewed, international journal publishing research covering all aspects of forestry and related disciplines. The journal publishes original scientific papers, preliminary communications, review papers, and data papers.

The main steps of the publication process are outlined below.

Manuscript Preparation

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should review the journal’s Aims and Scope to ensure that the topic fits the journal. Authors are also encouraged to consult the Publication Policy, Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement, and Guidelines for Authors.

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the Guidelines for Authors and using the official Manuscript Template. In addition to the manuscript, authors are required to submit a Title Page for editorial use only, which is not disclosed to reviewers. Submissions that do not comply with these requirements may be returned to authors prior to peer review.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts are submitted online via the journal’s Manuscript Submission system (OJS) by registering and logging in to the website. The entire editorial and peer-review process is conducted electronically, facilitating efficient handling, reducing processing time, and allowing authors to track the status of their manuscripts throughout the review process.

Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment to evaluate their scope, originality, and compliance with journal policies. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to authors without external review.

Peer Review

Manuscripts passing the initial assessment are subject to an international double-blind peer-review process, in which authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other. At least two independent reviewers evaluate each manuscript.

Based on reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief (or an Assistant Editor acting under the authority of the Editor-in-Chief) communicates the editorial decision to the corresponding author. Revisions may be required, and in cases of major revision, manuscripts may undergo additional rounds of peer review.

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

Acceptance and Online Publication

Following acceptance and completion of copyediting and production, articles are published online in the Early View section in their final form.

At the time of Early View publication, each article is assigned complete bibliographic information, including volume, issue, year, DOI, and a unique Article ID, which replaces traditional page numbering. Early View articles are fully citable and indexed immediately upon publication.

SEEFOR issues are formally closed twice a year. This administrative step does not affect the content or citation details of articles published in Early View.

Copyright and Licensing

As part of the submission process, authors are required to agree to the journal’s copyright and licensing terms.

Authors retain the copyright of their published work and grant the Publisher (Croatian Forest Research Institute) a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the article.
